The fieldbus coupler automatically adjusts to create a local process image that can include analog, digital or custom modules. Analog and special module data are sent in words and/or bytes; Digital data is sent in the form of bits. The upper EtherCAT® interface connects the coupler to the network. The lower RJ-45 socket connects additional EtherCAT® devices on the same line. EtherCAT ® (Ethernet Control Automation Technology) is a real-time ETHERNET solution designed for industrial automation applications and known for high performance, flexible topology and simple configuration. With EtherCAT ® the costly ETHERNET star topology can be replaced with a simple line or tree structure. The address selector switch is used to set the Explicit Device Identification (EDI) and allows the assignment of a fixed address to an EtherCAT® slave.
