The fieldbus coupler automatically adjusts to create a local process image that can include analog, digital or custom modules. Analog and special module data are sent in words and/or bytes; Digital data is sent in the form of bits. The local process image is divided into two data regions: received data and data to be sent. Process data can be sent to a control system via the CANopen bus for further processing. Process output data can be sent via the CANopen bus. The data of analog modules is stored in PDOs in the order in which the modules are connected to the coupler. The bits of the digital modules are sent as bytes and are also mapped in PDOs. If the amount of digital information exceeds 8 bits, the bus coupler automatically starts with a new byte. All entries of the object directory can be mapped as required in the 32 Rx PDO and 32 Tx PDO. The entire input and output process image can be transmitted using SDOs.
